There are so many reasons to get away – to take a break from your normal day-to-day life, to see news places around the world and visit friends and family. But have you ever noticed, you see the real benefits of a vacation when you actually return to your normal life?
Of course I mean, after the tears of being back home and not being on vacation anymore fade away. That totally just happened to me. As soon as I felt the humid 80+ degree weather of Chicago, the sound of traffic and a police car whizzing by…I was like, “nope, can I go back?”
What I find is that my upon my re-entrance into “real” life, my mind feels more free, my spirit is rejuvenated and my heart is more content. It’s weird that sometimes we have to go away to be more present with our reality.
As moms, it is more critical for us to get away and reflect on our lives…that are ever changing with each phase of motherhood. Who we are, or feel like, changes every day, week, month and year.
For the past 3 years, I’ve been fortunate enough to take a annual summer trip to visit my mom and stepdad on the west coast. This has started to serve as a personal check-point for me to assess where I am and how I’m doing…really doing.
I encourage you, if you can, make time to get away. Prioritize the reflection time and just taking a breathe from your day-to-day life.
