The 4 Things I’m Loving Right Now…

Hey Moms,

Wow!  I’m so thankful for the shift that has happened in my life.  Some of you may know this already, but just 4 months ago, I took a HUGE leap of faith and moved back home to Chicago after living in New York City for almost 13 years.  WHAT?!  I’ll give you the deets to that life-changing moment another time.

Some of the advantages of moving back home are: I can breathe…I can breathe…I can breathe.  No, seriously – my mind doesn’t feel suffocated anymore with monumental responsibility and slim resources.

The greatest benefit of having more mental, emotional and physical space, is the gift of time.  Now, I have moments to think, innovative, be more creative, read (!) and research.  All this momentum allows me to feel closer to the universal connection in my life and more confident I’m going into the right direction.

As mentioned above, I have more time to read, listen and watch information that helps me think out of the box and come up with great ideas.

Below are 4 things I love right now:

TV – The Mary Tyler Moore Show on Hulu

The Mary Tyler Moore Show was an American sitcom from the 70’s, 1970-1977 to be exact.  I vaguely knew about the show from my mom but never really checked it out.  Not until Mary Tyler Moore’s recent passing, did I see the show advertised on Hulu and thought, why not?  With the thought of watching the current show offerings or the USA’s current state of affairs online, I figured TMTM show might be a nice break away from the norm and offer a refreshing memory of what good wholesome comedic tv used to be.  When I told my mom I was watching the show, she shared that the show made history by being the first of its kind to showcase a young independent working woman, serving as a role model to her and many others.  From the first 20 shows that I’ve watched, I can affirm that 1) the fashion rocks – see Mary Tyler and Ted Baxter 2) the PG rated humor still delivers in present day and 3) Mary was truly a gem of an actress, showing what patience, honesty and friendship looks like (at least in a show anyways).

Music – Hillsong Young & Free Radio on Pandora

As a music enthusiast and mom, I often have to sift through stations that offer a positive message with a good beat that meets my needs and works for the kids.  I recently found out about the Hillsong Young & Free Pandora station and I love it! My worship music has now broadened with this alternative sounding Christian music. Hillsong Young & Free (also known as Hillsong Y&F) is an Australian contemporary worship music group from Sydney, Australia, where they started making Australian nationalist music in 2012 at Hillsong Church (Wikipedia).  The tunes are a good mix of upbeat and slow, all focused on faith-lived lives.  Check it out!

Book – Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers by Tim Ferris

This very thick book is a summary of over 200 interviews from Tim’s podcast, The Tim Ferris Show.  It’s more of a toolkit on how to attain a high-achieving life based on data from hundreds of people who have done it already.  The topics include anything from health to wealth.  This is what Tim himself has to say about the book, “Everything within these pages has been vetted, explored, and applied to my own life in some fashion. I’ve used dozens of the tactics and philosophies in high-stakes negotiations, high-risk environments, or large business dealings. The lessons have made me millions of dollars and saved me years of wasted effort and frustration.”  As you can see, Tim is an explorer and experimenter of what works in getting things done in life.  He adds, “I created this book, my ultimate notebook of high-leverage tools, for myself. It’s changed my life, and I hope the same for you.”  Pick it up and read up on what has worked.

Podcast – The Great Girlfriends episodes on Exponential Living with Sheri Riley Part 1 & 2

First off, if you don’t know about The Great Girlfriends (TGG) podcast….NOW you know.  Go to itunes and subscribe immediately.  Your life will be lifted.  I was even a featured guest last year for my work with Moms Winning (yay!).  But what I really want you to check out are the last two week’s worth of episodes, #80 and #81, with special guest Sheri Riley.  The shows will leave you inspired!  Sheri has a long standing career as an entrepreneur and she just dropped the book Exponential Living, Stop Spending 100% of Your Time on 10% of Who You Are – can we just say WOW to that title?  Check out the podcasts and be blown away by the stories of victory to balance family, career and faith.

I’m learning that making time to invest into my own growth has a ripple effect on my calling in life.  And if you’re wondering how you can make the time to pick your own brain, if this single mama can do it, so can you.  I watch Hulu after the kids are asleep; listen to Hillsong Young & Free every morning and in the car; I also read after the kids are in the bed and; listen the podcasts during mid-day walks at work.  Prioritize the good things you need to grow in life.

Now your turn: comment below and tell me what are you loving right now?  Give me your favorite book or song right now that I need to check out.

Let’s Win,

  1. So I actually have been following Sheri Riley and listens to 3 webinars in the past 3 weeks. Definitely encouraging and I am waiting for my book to arrive.

I’m loving my email and text detox! Can I say I did not realize how much time I was wasting and how distracting it has been. It effects time management, productivity and being in the moment. So I am loving the DO NOT DISTURB feature on my phone right now.

I am loving podcasts these days. Lately I’ve been following Jenell B Stewart as she discusses weight lost, marriage, kids, women empowerment (just to name a few of the topics). Podcasts are a great way to get in information while you work out or have some downtime. It feels refreshing and relaxing.

I am LOVING This Is Us! What a show! I’m catching up on Season 1 so I can begin to watch the new season which has started. The show is simply amazing with many layers of issues that could arise within a family.

I am loving that I am sticking to reading. This month I am reading Addicted to Unhappiness. Interested read thus far.

So great article because I didn’t realize how much I was loving right now. 🙂
