Let's Talk Goals-10

Hey MOMS! We had SO much fun time tonight on Monday Night Live!!

Who knew national volunteerism would prep us so well for motherhood!

Thanks Katrina PavlikCrystal Williams and Rochaun Koren for joining our chat! And big ups to John Hayes III for holding it down for the fellas and asking us some great questions.

We discussed how national volunteerism influenced motherhood.

In 2001, I joined Public Allies, a 10-month Americorps apprenticeship program designed to build the next generation of community leaders.  Katrina and I were in the same class of Allies.

During that program I met SUCH outstanding people, most of whom I still remain in connect with today.  Katrina PavlikShaRhonda Knott-DawsonMolly Reineck DamonTorri Utech BradleyLillie SellersCarima WatkinsSima PatelDanielle Normand just to name a few.

Many of us are moms now too! When I think back to our times grinding in the streets of Chicago, working towards positive change, I can see how we have been able to transfer over some community building skills into motherhood.

Here’s one small nugget from tonight’s conversation:

– Appreciative Inquiry is great with kids. By asking positively phrased, open ended questions with your kids, you get more detailed information of their life experiences and it also helps them explore their own likes/dislikes. Example: What was something that excited you at school today?
