WOW Wednesday: The Human Heart

Hey moms,

My WOW of the week is the human heart.  I’m in awe…

Remember the first time you heard your baby’s heartbeat???  Wasn’t it amazing
???  It was confirmation of life, right?  You could hear something was growing inside of you.  A soul…a spirit… a tiny little person. ?

And what really blows my mind about the heart is that we don’t tell it to pump.  It’s power and magic runs on it’s own.  It grows and operates without any help from the human it supports.  Can we just stop for a moment, put our hand over our heart, and say THANK YOU?  I love how we as humans like to think we are so in control of everything…but we aren’t.
WHY am I even talking about the human heart right now???  I know, I know…before kids…I would have been too busy to think about the beauty in now.  But one thing I learned from my kids is to see the wonder in the present.  And besides, my kids are in the “questions” phase where they ask me all these questions that are SO good…that I have to look up to answer correctly. “Siri….what is…”

Did you know48068_10200977366333467_1189115801_n that the heart starts to beat after just 4 weeks of conception? ?

Every day, your heart beats about 100,000 times, sending 2,000 gallons of blood surging through your body.  WHAT?!  Can you just marinate on that for a second?  100,000 beats and 2,000 gallons of blood….and you thought you worked HARD.  No, your heart is working hard! (*take care of it ?)

The heart is so coordinated too!  The right side pumps blood into the lungs and the left side pumps it back into your body. Again, no computer coded program is helping your heart do all of this.

And just on a crazier note: the blue whale has the largest heart weighing at 1,500 pounds.  What?! ?

Sadly, the occurrences of heart attacks peak on ChristmasIMG_0696 Day, followed by December 26th and New Year’s Eve.  ? We gotta do better people, and not let this world stress us out.

The best way to keep your heart healthy is a good diet, exercise and managing your stress.  Mommies!!  Listen to me (as I tell this to myself too), make sure you manage your stress!  A lot rests on us, and a lot of people, so we need to take care of ourselves.
